iPhotography Outstanding Contribution 2016: Tim Archer
Congratulations Tim – Outstanding Achievement & Contribution 2016
As a very highly-regarded member of the iPhotography community, we felt Tim Archer more than deserved to be presented with our ‘Outstanding Contribution 2016’ award.
Ask any member of the iPhotography community and Tim Archer is a man they will be familiar with, whether that be because of his outstanding wildlife photography or for his positive and constructive comments offered to fellow students – he always goes above and beyond.
Tim has been an active, positive member of the iPhotography™ community since 2012. He originally joined iPhotography to develop his skills as a photographer, but has moved forward in leaps and bounds.
After joining our community of budding photographers, Tim developed his own unique style, learnt new photography techniques and won competitions in his local community as well as in ours. Not only as he achieved greatness in his own photography, he has continuously guided students along the way, offering over 2500 suggestions in the gallery, replying to forum questions and supplying positive encouragement on the chat wall.
Another thing that makes Tim stand out to us is that not only is he busy supporting the work of others, but he also tirelessly works to upload his own inspirational and breath-taking images to the gallery (developing himself as a photographer in the process).
Tim displays a personal gallery that is filled with skilled, inspirational and aspiring imagery. His work holds detail, is beautifully composed and taken with precision timing. Tim always manages to add that little extra to the scene which sets his animal images apart.
“For me it is all about making that connection between the animal and myself, and then showing the world how I see them.”
– Tim Archer
It’s clear to those who know him that wildlife photography is his passion and area of accomplishment. In fact, his images cut it close to winning in all of this year’s annual competitions! He was in the top 3 for Photographer of the Year, and within the top 10 for both the photo of the day and gold medal awards!!
Given the criteria of this award, Tim Archer was a clear choice for us, and I’m sure for many of you aswell (his name has been soaring through your images in the iPhotography gallery). Tim offers advice and guidance to students almost as much as the tutors do! We cannot thank him enough for the amount of time and effort that Tim puts into the community.
Winning the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award amongst 80,000+ students is a huge accomplishment, we are incredibly proud and pleased to offer this award to Tim. We wish him the best of luck moving forwards and hope that he will continue to be an active and inspirational photographer within the iPhotography community.
Tim wished to share a few words upon being awarded with this fantastic honour:
It’s always a massive encouragement to hear that my work is really appreciated amongst peers and being chosen for this has given me another confidence boost and to strive to expand my knowledge in photography.
A little about me. I am 35 years old, married and have a 11 month old son called Ethan, who luckily loves posing for the camera. My passion for photography came from watching my Dad turn our bath room into a developing lab for his old film DSLR. I love photography because it allows me to show how I see the world through my eyes. Animals have always been my main focus but I try to dabble in all areas of photography.
2016 was an exceptionally good year for me, what with the birth of my Son Ethan, who will be a year old in Feb!! It was also another good year in Photography for me too, what with winning Runner up and being commended for 3 photos at in the Marwell Zoo 2016 Photographer of the year award, and then on top of that, I was chosen to win the Case Study competition that was run on the Iphotography course. To top that off I was shortlisted for this competition. Not bad if I do say so myself.
Starting off 2017 by winning the Outstanding Contribution award has kicked off my year to a great start, which has pushed me to achieve more for this year.
In 2017 I will be carrying on with my animal and Zoo photography as my main focus. I would like to start selling prints, but I am also going to delve into Astrophotography, as this is a field that I have always found fascinating. I was given the Sky-watcher Adventurer Tripod Mount as a Christmas present recently to help me study and capture photos of stars and other celestial wonders with my camera. Stay tuned to the student gallery as I will be posting some examples once I have experimented with this. (Just need clear nights!)
I also plan to set up my own website to showcase my photography and try to establish myself further.
Another goal of mine will be to actually complete this course too! I have dipped in and out of the course modules since ( I think) 2013! That’s the great thing about this course it allows me to fit studying around my hectic life. I am also looking forward to studying the new course that I have won access to and start learning techniques to help me make money from my photography.
Not to worry though, even after completing the course I will still be in the gallery and forums as it is such a great photographic community that has been established within the course; I will continue to help and share knowledge that I have gained through my own experiences to help encourage fellow students.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the tutors for their continued support and encouragement over the years, but also to my fellow students who have offered support and constructive feedback within the gallery. I find reading other people’s views and feedback is invaluable when pushing to better yourself.
Thank you all once again and I am looking forward to purchasing a new wide angle lens with the voucher and really looking forward to putting my Trophy on display at home and showing it off to family and friends.
– Tim Archer
Tim received £250 in Amazon Gift Vouchers, an engraved trophy, and a Digital Gift voucher for the ‘Turn your Photography into a business’ course.
Huge congratulations Tim! We cannot thank you enough for the time, effort, commitment, contribution and dedication you offer to both your fellow students, gallery members and the iPhotography tutors. Not only do we look forward to seeing your own inspirational imagery regularly displayed within the gallery, but we also love hearing you voice your tips and praise within the community. Keep up the encouraging work Tim, it is most definitely appreciated by all! It is an honour to have you as a member within iPhotography, and we look forward to hearing (and seeing) more from you throughout 2017.
– Comment from the iPhotography Tutors and Head Office Team.
